I am sure many of you have heard if this homily?

In this case it is not quite the correct one, but it will do.

You remember the issue I had with the dye lots on the sweater for Interweave? Well oops I did it again, but this time it was ALL my fault.

I ordered in the  yarn for the Sherlock sweater, changed my mind about what size I was going to knit and forgot to add extra yarn. By the time I realised, I had knitted the body, one sleeve and done the neck. I was two balls short. I scoured the web including Revelry and even ordered a couple of balls of a different dyelot in the vain hope that they would be compatible, before biting the bullet and ordering another set of yarn to start again.

The only positives I can taken our of the whole experience are:

Trust your gut, if you think there won’t be enough yarn -there won’t be. Just cut tour losses and order more.

At least the pattern will be well tested

And ALWAYS order more yarn than you need , just in case.

Even big names can’t promise consistent colours, so don’t expect them to.

This of course has put everything back a bit. I have put the sweater in hold as it isn’t needed yet, and concentrated on the stuff that is nearing a deadline. The Fall shawl for The Unique Sheep is done, tech edited , photographed and just on ready to be sent off to them for editing in the house style to go out with the yarn that is I understand currently in the dye pot.

A scarf for Knotions is currently blocking on my Lounge floor and I am about to cast on for The Christmas in July Cowl. That just leaves the next KAL to chart (The name is still a secret) and then test knit and the Sherlock sweater to finish.

After that I have a couple or three shawls to chart and test. One forma  The Unique Sheep club (yet to be announced), One for Co Operative Press Knit Edge magazine and One that will be self published. Add to that the Peter Pan shrug that is on hold and I have plenty to do.

Trouble is I am back to work at the end of August. I need a longer holiday!

As usual I have nothing on the needles that I can show you, so you will have to be content with another blast from the past.
